POLICE officers are setting their sights on speeding drivers in Northwich this month, with the help of handheld TruCam devices.

The all-in-one speed guns record vehicle data through lasers, and also record images to help enforce limits and deter drivers tempted to break them.

With King Street still closed for gas works, drivers using rural diversions have been reportedly thwarting restrictions.

A police spokesman said: “As a result of the closure of King Street there has been an increase in speeding vehicles in our rural areas, particularly Birches Lane, Lostock Green.

“We have increased our visibility and enforcement activities in the area.”

Throughout February, Northwich policing team will call on the assistance of TruCam devices and the Roads Policing Unit yellow van.

The van can be deployed at the side of roads with an in-built speed camera.

Elsewhere in Northwich, PCSOs will be carrying out TruCam checks in High Street, Weaverham, as well as Runcorn Road in Barnton and Winnington Avenue, Winnington.

Through feedback from residents and communities, police can target specific crimes on a monthly ‘priority’ basis on top of their normal work.
