NORTHWICH home-owners impacted by the leasehold scandal met with Mike Amesbury last week.
Winnington Village residents previously contacted the Weaver Vale MP over the issue, saying they felt ‘cheated’ out of buying their leasehold after purchasing their properties.
The practice involves properties being sold to buyers but not the land they’re built on. But in some cases, this land has been sold on to third parties and the price increased.
Mr Amesbury has raised the issue with senior figures in the housebuilding industry. He also wrote to Communities secretary Sajid Javid and questioned him in the Commons on the practice.
On Friday he spoke to residents at Winnington Park Recreation Club.
Mike said: “The government says it wants to end this practice so that nobody falls victim to it in the future, but that doesn’t help those who’ve already been sold these properties with leaseholds that have now skyrocketed.
“Myself and colleagues will continue to press this issue, including on a cross-party basis wherever possible.”
