Creative launches initiative to put mid Cheshire towns on the map

Ian David, creative director at the Ian David Group, has already set up the Mid Cheshire Business Forum to provide networking opportunities for firms across Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich and Knutsford.

Now, after returning to the area from the south west earlier this year, he is keen to make the salt towns a key destination for tourism, business and events.

He told the Guardian: “I have been planning and researching the project’s potential for almost two years.

“Like most people, I recognise the possibilities Northwich and mid Cheshire present, both as a tourist destination and as a touring centre.

“But while there are some great initiatives, the combination of the area being administrated by two separate authorities and the effect that austerity is having on the public purse strings means that the area isn’t necessarily receiving the exposure it rightly deserves.

“A community-driven approach would better-reflect the local needs and aspirations, have the ability to leverage funding that would not otherwise be available, and could offer greater agility to new opportunities as they arise.”

To make the project come to life, Ian is looking for a handful of creative volunteers with a range of skills – such as funding research, bid writing, customer service, office admin, event management, marketing or graphic design.

The roles could ideally suit individuals who are looking to return to work, or have retired.

He believes that by pushing mid Cheshire as a tourist destination with major events, more businesses will be encouraged to invest in the area.

Ian added: “With Barons Quay now ready to receive tenants, plus the success of the River Festival, now is the time to grow that impetus and create a calendar of high-profile events for residents – and to attract more visitors to show them what a great place we live in.”
