KEVIN Dewsbury is bringing the laughter to his hometown of Northwich.

The actor and comedian, from Barnton, is running the monthly Kev's Comedy Club at the Salty Dog, in High Street.

And with a contacts book benefitting from more than a decade in the industry, he's attracting some of the best names on the circuit to the recently-launched pub.

Kevin told the Guardian: “We’re trying to do a cross-section of different acts with different styles – not just one observational comedian after another.

"And so far it has been doing great – long may that continue."

The Salty Dog is already earning a good reputation as a live music and entertainment venue in Northwich, having opened its doors in May.

Alongside the launch of Bombay Quay, The Salthouse NW, Wildwood and the Odeon all in the past 12 months, it has become a major part of the town's renewed nightlife offering.

“It’s great for the town – people are wanting to go out in Northwich now, when before there wasn’t much to do,” Kevin said.

“It’s becoming more of a destination for people in the area to have an evening out – there’s the comedy night, there’s different bands performing.”

After performing at the Edinburgh Festival in August, Kevin is currently working on a production of Travesties in Worcester, before taking on the role of an ugly step-sister in Cinderella for this year's pantomime at The Forum Studio Theatre, in Chester.

It is more than enough to be keeping Kevin busy – but events back in Northwich remain firmly in his mind.

“I can’t really think about much past the next week,” he added.

"But we will continue with the comedy at the Salty Dog, and it might be that we could do a mini festival over a weekend.

"I don’t think there would be enough footfall for a comedy festival at the moment, but an arts festival with music and theatre too, that could a possibility in the future."

Kev's Comedy Club returns to the Salty Dog on Thursday, November 16 – featuring Liam Pickford, Lauren Pattison and Scott Bennet.

Tickets cost £4 online at or £5 on the door.
