THE A533 Booth Lane has now reopened.
Heavy traffic has been reported in the area due to an accident and flooding between Long Lane South (Middlewich) and Mill Lane (Sandbach).
It had originally been reported the river had flooded into the road but the highways team has now said the flooding has been caused by a burst water main.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: "A leak on Booth Lane, near to the British Salt Company, is causing no water or reduced pressure for some customers in parts of Middlewich.
"We’ve managed to arrange an alternative water supply for most customers affected by rerouting water from other parts of the network and deploying our water on wheels tankers.
"A team of engineers is now on its way to Booth Lane to begin repairs on the leak. We apologise for the trouble this may be causing customers and we will get taps flowing normally again as quickly as we can.”
Booth Lane Middlewich is open. Traffic management is in place whilst repairs are being carried out #Drivesafely #Onelaneonly
