A STRATEGY for the proposed Mid Cheshire Rail Link is expected by the end of summer.

A campaigner confirmed that Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership have taken the project on board and are working on plans for a rail-strategy.

The link aims to connect Middlewich to Northwich with a new station in Gadbrook Park. The project is estimated to cost £5 million.

Stephen Dent, campaign chairman, said: “We’ve essentially had it taken off our hands and the project has become much wider.

“This is much bigger than anticipated with some changes to be made but we’re very happy at this stage and are looking forward to hearing what the authorities have to say on the matter.

“The campaign is being taken seriously. With the added approval of the local plan it seems to be working out as far as we are concerned.

“The next stage for us will be to wait for the strategy and press all six MPs from Cheshire to support it for funding.”
