MOTORISTS were reeling after being boxed in by ‘inconsiderate’ parkers in Marbury Park yesterday.

Visitors flocked to the park to take advantage of the sweltering heat.

However, the park was so busy that a number of visitors, who were unable to finds a parking spot, parked behind a row of cars leaving them with no way to leave.

Mike Humphreys found himself boxed in after he returned from a walk around 1pm with his fiancée Amy Treanor and their friend.

Mr Humphreys told the Guardian: “When we arrived back at the car park, I was amazed to find that a row of cars had formed directly behind the two rows that are normally there, meaning our row had no way of leaving unless the car in front or car behind left.

“This meant about a dozen cars were blocked in and stranded. I've never seen such inconsideration/lack of common sense on that scale.

“We were due to take our friend to the airport at 3pm, meaning we were tight for time as it was. We called the police, who tried to contact the car owners to no avail, but said they couldn't do anything else.

“The council and ranger's office were uncontactable.

“We were really quite frustrated that nobody had the foresight to employ an attendant on what was inevitably such a busy day.”

In his frustration Mr Humphreys began acting as a parking attendant himself to stop others from parking where they should not.

He eventually made it out around an hour later, just in time to make it to the airport.

He said: “It took an hour for someone to finally arrive, allowing us to get out through a tiny gap at an angle to us.

“There was another family in the same position trying to negotiate their four wheel drive through the tiniest gap, before realising it was futile.”

"Our friend only just made their flight but that was only through good fortune."

Cllr Karen Shore, CWAC cabinet member for environment, said: “We urge all visitors to our country parks to park considerately, particularly at busy times.

“We have signage in the car park at Marbury Country Park warning motorists that they need to be aware of blocking other drivers in.

“The vast majority of people use their common sense and incidents like this are rare but, following this, we will review how the car park is marked out.”
