DAVENHAM Running Buddies are planning to get even muddier this time around to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Louise Smith, Julie Rarity, Vicki Wright, Yvette Heatley, Katy Elizabeth Morgan and Kathryn Alexander are taking on a 5k obstacle course at Tatton Park on June 24.

The Race for Life Pretty Muddy Cheshire involves scrambling over an A-frame, crawling through a mud pit, having fun with your friends and raising vital funds for the fight to defeat cancer.

“It was so much fun last year that we're doing it again, this time getting even muddier, and raising a few pounds for Cancer Research as we go,” said Louise, who raised more than £7,000 recently for the Brain Tumour Charity by climbing the steps of the Eiffel Tower.

Louise, 42, took on the challenge only a few months after undergoing surgery for a brain tumour.

Julie Rarity set up Davenham Running Buddies three years ago when she was training for her first marathon.

“We have 117 members, all running from 5k to ultra marathon, getting people to achieve goals they never thought possible,” said Julie, a nurse at St Luke’s Hospice.

“The way members actively motivate and encourage others is what makes the group so successful, and I’m extremely proud of Louise for being so positive and inspirational.

“As soon as she felt well enough she was back out with myself and the Davenham Running Buddies training every week, going further and faster every time. How could you not be inspired by that? She is amazing.

“This will be the third year that we will have taken part in the Pretty Muddy event – it’s pretty addictive.”

Pretty Muddy entry times are 12.15pm, 12.30pm, 12.45pm and 1pm. Entry is £10 for girls aged 13 to 15, £19.99 for women aged 16 to 17, and £19.99 for women 18 and over. Due to the nature of the event you must be 13 or over to take part.
