WINSTON Duff was the outstanding player during finals night for the Mid Cheshire Closed Championships.

The Tigers star, who had already helped his team to a league and cup double this season added a further four winners’ medals to his tally at Winnington Park Recreation Club.

That included the biggest prize – an open singles final success in straight sets against Terry Turner (Blades).

Duff, who had seen off Peter Morley (Victoria) in the last four earlier in the evening, ran out a comfortable victor by 11-3, 11-7, 11-7.

Turner had despatched Craig Lee, a teammate of Duff, in his semi-final.

Duff had picked up his first award after being partnered with Victoria’s Keith Mitchell in the drawn doubles, and they edged out Turner and Adam Ryder (Blades).

He then joined forces with Ian Oakes (Raptors) in the veterans’ doubles, for players aged over 50, to record a victory against John Gregson (Tigers) and Alf Perry (Sparks).

In the veterans’ singles final, he proved too strong for Ray Worthington (Sparks) on his way to another straight sets win.

Earlier, Jack Brierley had beaten Falcons teammate Peter Wong 11-9, 11-9, 11-5 in the opening match of the evening to take the junior singles title.

Vikings’ John Roberts won the singles competition for Division Three players at the expense of Martin Selby (Kinetics) in a match that went the distance.

In the Division Two equivalent, Andy Edwards’ meeting with Bears teammate Paul Curley also went to a deciding fifth set before he prevailed 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9.

The final award went to Victoria duo Mitchell and Peter Morley, who dug deep to end the challenge of Turner and Ian Oakes (Raptors) to prevail in the open doubles.
