Police were notified of the incident shortly after 2:30pm in Junction 17-18 between Sandbach and Middlewich.
Drivers are advised to avoid Junction 17 southbound for their journey home as all three lanes are closed due to significant road damage. Junction 18 is also closed to stop further traffic.
