A TEAM of Crewe’s best young dancers has excelled in its first ever street dance championship competition.

TGA Street Dance Team finished in an impressive second place in the North West Street Dance Championship at Wright Robinson College on Sunday, November 20.

The five girls had practiced their routine once a week for three months at the club’s studio in Thomas Street, before impressing the judges on their choreography, movement, variety and execution.

While the team celebrated its success, seven-year-old Lexi Belle Percival also took the spotlight, finishing fifth out of 35 entries in the solo newcomer under 8’s category.

Michaela Marchionne, choreographer and TGA Street Dance teacher, said: “I’m very proud of the girls who have only just started street dance but who have very quickly picked it up.

“Their enjoyment of the dance is evident in how hard they’ve practiced to do as well as they have.

“Lexi’s solo performance was brilliant and the judges recognised this in their verdict.”

Sandbach High School student Kya Glasheen, who took part in the event, added: “We all worked so hard and were so pleased to have done so well in our first competition.

“I’m just looking forward to more competitions now.”

Street dance is a very modern type of dance, which is often seen as a form of expression and escapism for participants.

TGA, which has a well-respected martial arts centre, has only recently begun providing dance classes.

Damian Glasheen, chief executive officer at TGA, said: “I’m so proud of all of our members who took part in their first ever street dance competition.

“To have been placed second in a competition across the north west when it’s the first time the girls have competed is a real achievement.

“Lexi Belle should be so proud of herself for getting so far when up against so many other solo dancers.

“As a club, we look forward to taking our street dancing provision forward and continuing to build on this first achievement.”
