PUPILS at Great Budworth C of E Primary School ended their summer term with a sponsored Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research, which raised almoast £1,300.

Each term the school council chooses a charity to support and plans an event the whole school can participate in.

The council was keen to support Cancer Research while having the fun of challenging themselves to run a long distance.

Pupils in pre-school and reception aimed to run two laps round the school field, pupils in years 1 and 2 aimed to run three laps, and pupils in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were asked to run four laps.

Before everyone set off, the children put on labels with the name of a family member or friend who had or has had cancer and who they wanted to run in memory of, or in support of.

Despite the very hot weather, and some children walking some of the way, every child achieved their target, and after the race every child was presented with a medal.

Head teacher Sandra Finney commented on the wonderful atmosphere, with many parents being there to support the children and cheer them on.

“It is a wonderful testament to the sense of family that we are lucky to have at this school, that many of our older children chose to run alongside our youngest pupils to encourage them and keep them going,” she said.

“We are delighted that they are able to spontaneously embrace the Christian values we aim to instil in them on a day-to-day basis on an occasion such as this.”
