FIONA Bruce has called for more positivity in politics following the death of fellow MP Jo Cox in Birstall last week.
Mrs Cox, 41, was shot and stabbed on her way to a constituent surgery on Thursday, June 16.
Fiona, MP for Congleton, said: “Chief in my thoughts and prayers over the past few days have been Jo Cox’s two very young children and her husband.
“Here in the Congleton constituency, I am determined to continue to be as fully involved in local community life as ever, and to ensure that I am equally available and accessible to all my constituents.
“To do otherwise, to change the way I work as a local MP, would be to allow a degree of victory, however slight, to the malevolent attitude behind last week’s tragic event.
“Instead, let us hope that the business of politics, and the commentary that constantly surrounds it, may, perhaps, become a slightly more positive and compassionate arena going forward.
“That would more accurately reflect the motivation of most people who enter politics in the first place.”
