A CREWE dental surgery picked up two gongs at a leading industry awards show.

Hundreds of finalists attended Purple Media Solutions’ annual Dental Awards, which celebrates the biggest and most astonishing talents in the UK dental industry.

Lisa Bainham, practice manager of The Old Surgery Dental Practice in Crewe won Practice Manager of the Year.

Staff from the Crewe surgery also received a 'Hightly Commended' recognition in the Team of the Year at the lavish awards evening, which was held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham.

Steve Lomas, The Old Surgery Dental Practice partner, said: “The awards are a culmination of eighteen years hard work.

“As a team we work very hard to look after our patients and ensure that they have a comfortable experience.

“No-one personifies this more than our Practice Manager, Lisa.

“I am delighted for her and it is no less than she deserves. From a local perspective, it is also great to see a practice in Crewe taking on and beating some of the London ‘big boys’.”

For the second time, the Dental Awards ran alongside the Dentistry Show.

Comedian Jo Caulfield, best known through her Radio 4 shows and as a writer for Graham Norton, hosted the awards ceremony.

A total of 17 awards that were given out on the night.

This year saw a slight change in the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Usually, the award is given to an individual who has been serving the dental industry for several years.

However, it was a team from Treeline Dental Care in Nottingham that were honoured in recognition for their life-saving efforts.

Ewa Rozwadowska, speaking on behalf of the judging panel, said: “This year, it is being given to a group of dental professionals who, with their dedication, saved a life.

“On July 10 last year, a 51-year-old member of the public collapsed outside their dental practice.

“As a team, the practice worked together on resuscitating and defibrillating Tony Gross, not once, not twice, but three times.

“He survived his two cardiac arrests. As practicing dental professionals, these are clinical competence skills we never want to have to prove.”
