A BEACON will be lit in Northwich in honour of the Queen's 90th birthday.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, will light the principal beacon at Windsor Castle to celebrate her 90th birthday on Thursday, April 21.

This will be followed by the lighting of more than 1,000 beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas territories and a Commonwealth country to celebrate this landmark birthday.

Beacons will be lit at churches, farms, country parks, village greens, country estates, lighthouses, National Trust and English Heritage properties while the Army Cadet Force is taking special gas fuelled Beacons to the top of the four highest peaks in the UK.

In Northwich town mayor Cllr Andy Stott will light a beacon at Verdin Park at 7.30pm on April 21.
