MORE than 4000 new apprenticeships have been started by people in Eddisbury since 2010, new figures have revealed.

According to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), 439,250 apprenticeships were started in the north west since May 2010 and more than 2.6 million across England.

The new figures also show progress towards the Conservatives’ pledge to deliver 3 million more apprenticeships by 2020 – with 268,000 started in this parliament.

In Winsford, Tiger Trailers, a commercial vehicle and body and trailer manufacturer, launched its apprentice scheme in October 2014.

Antoinette Sandbach, MP for Eddisbury, said: “These figures are fantastic news. 4380 new apprenticeships started locally since 2010 means more young people in Eddisbury getting the skills to get on in life and do well.

“I’ve visited some great businesses in Eddisbury that recognise the benefits of employing and training apprentices.”

“Apprenticeships have been a core part of our plan to deliver a more secure future for young people, which is why we committed to deliver 3 million more high quality apprenticeships by 2020 – with these figures confirming we are already making progress towards that.

“By delivering this we will ensure more young people earning and learning, with the prospect of a good job and a more secure future ahead of them.”
