Winsford Midweek Club by Jean Begg

This month’s meeting of the Winsford Midweek Club was afternoon high tea at The English Dining Room near Holmes Chapel. Although the weather was not suitable to walk around the gardens, the reception inside was superb. Bettie and her staff made everyone welcome, the food was delicious; no one refused the offer of seconds.

The title of the September meeting was `Sally & Bob’. Sally Towers who runs her own professional dog grooming business under the name `Cute Cuts Winsford’ brought along her model Bob, a Yorkshire terrier to have his coat trimmed. The initial presentation on screen showed Bob having his wash & blow dry in a specialised bath/dryer. One does not realise how many shampoos and conditioners there are for all the different breeds and their coats.

Taking centre stage on a special table Bob stood very patiently while having his head to tail trim. Sally then finished her presentation giving us an insight into the various astonishing creative grooming and colouring some breeders from the USA and Japan are introducing into dog shows. Well done Sally and Bob, the ladies loved your natural cut.

The next meeting will be at St Andrews Church on Oct 22 when Elizabeth Morris will present a dramatisation of Violet’s life set after WW1 in Winsford and the working conditions women endured. The evening is supporting the Parkinson society. Tickets £12.00 to include chicken casserole, cheesecake, tea/coffee. Entrance by ticket only.
