A TEN-YEAR-OLD has beaten more than 70 applicants to be named the new junior mayor of Winsford
Shannon Mitchell, from Winsford, was sworn on to her new role at a ceremony at St Chad’s CE Primary School on Monday, July 6.
Shannon received the robes and chain from retiring junior mayor, Megan Hamill, in front of many of her admiring classmates.
Winsford town mayor, Cllr Gaskill-Jones, said: “‘It was a wonderful little ceremony. We tried to make it as authentic as possible so that the youngsters could see what happens at a real Mayor Making ceremony.
“Shannon really looked the part and I’m sure she will prove to be a great junior ambassador for Winsford.”
Shannon was chosen from more than 70 applications, which were considered by Cllr Gaskill-Jones.
In her letter, Shannon said that she wanted to help people who don’t have much money, and that she had recently started raising money for St Luke’s Hospice.
St Chad’s CE Primary School headteacher, Natalie Tomlinson, added: ‘It’s an honour for a youngster from our school to be chosen as junior mayor.
“Shannon is very excited and we look forward to supporting her in her role.”
