OUR speaker for the April meeting held on Tuesday 7, was Raymond Rush, the corn dolly maker, dairy farmer and local historian.

The theme of his talk was Fairs and Festivals, Raymond arrived dressed the part, in a country yokel's smock and battered hat.

He gave a delightful and interesting insight into the customs and folklore of the seasons, explaining how some of the very ancient customs were later integrated into Christian festivals. Raymond also brought along a collection of Corn Dollies he makes, along with books that he has written, an altogether very interesting, amusing and entertaining evening.

Examples of Raymond's Corn Dollies can be seen at the Harvest Festival, at All Saints Church, Siddington from the second weekend in October each year.

The next meeting of the Stroke Club is on Tuesday, May 5.

The Stroke Club Meets on the first Tuesday evening of every month at Dane Walk at 7pm.
