A COMEDY club in Northwich is celebrating its second anniversary with a trio of top acts.

Haha at the Harlequin returns on Saturday, January 24, with stand-up comedians from stage and screen taking up the mic.

Headlining the night, which takes place at the Harlequin Theatre, in Queen Street, is Jo Caulfield, a stand-up comedian who is also chief writer for the Graham Norton Show and has had numerous TV appearances, including Michael McIntyre's comedy roadshow, Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week.

Also appearing on the Harlequin Stage is Gareth Berliner, who is also an actor and recently appeared as Macca in Coronation Street.

Completing the trio is Jack Campbell, a rising star who won the English comedian of the year 2014 award.

The evening, which starts at 8.30pm, is compared by Barnton funnyman Kevin Dewsbury, who has performed across the UK and overseas.

He said: "When I started doing comedy I was in London, I was there for nine years and travelled all over the UK seeing other acts, who have become friends over the years.

"I've got a lot of knowledge of the UK comedy circuit and can find out who's working in the area and can draw on several people.

"I'm not a rookie who just thought he would set up a night in his home town.

"I carefully think about the bills and like to get a good eclectic mix, I try to balance it so the acts aren't too similar."

Haha at the Harlequin has proved a great success, attracting a core following of around 50 people at the intimate venue.

Kevin said: "One of the most satisfying things about Haha at the Harlequin is that after all the hard work and stress over whether I'll sell any tickets it's standing in the wings watching it and seeing the audience laughing their heads off.

"You can think 'I did this, I've actually achieved it and made it happen, people are really enjoying the night and that was what I was aiming for."

Tickets, priced £10, are available at harlequinplayers.com or by ringing 01606 246831.
