PAST and present pupils of Middlewich High were honoured at an awards evening with one former pupil scooping the a prize from the council for her work with the community.

The awards evening took place on Thursday, November 20, and saw Emily Brayne accept the Middlewich Town Council Prize for Outstanding Service to the Community.

Emily was nominated for the prize by PE teacher Mrs Denham for helping out at primary schools, volunteering at primary school festivals, and taking on a coach role within primaries.

She was awarded an engraved plaque and some of the money that the Town Council gave for the award will be donated in her name to the local charity Friends for Leisure.

Emily said: “I would like the community donation to be given to a Cheshire East charity who work with children with disabilities to do sports and make friends in a safe and anti-bullying environment, allowing them to have equal chance of doing well in their desired sport.”

The evening also celebrated the successes of the school’s Class of 2014 leavers who received their GCSE exam certificates, with several students receiving subject specific prizes.

Eleanor Shakeshaft, events co-ordinator at Middlewich High, said: “It was a fantastic evening and we would like to thank all of our sponsors for their generous donations towards prizes, our speaker Paul O’Neill, our Year 10 Catering students who put on a wonderful selection of food, and the MHS staff who organised the event.

“And lastly, we would like to congratulate the Class of 2014 and we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours. “
