A STAR studded cricket match will take place in Northwich to raise money for charity on Sunday, June 29.

An Emmerdale All-star team will be captained by Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe in the popular soap opera, and includes Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard, Bhasker Patel, who plays Rishi Sharma, and Joe-Warren Plant, who plays Jacob Gallagher.

They will face an MPs and Celebrities team of Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans, TV presenter Nick Hancock, TV antiques auctioneer Adam Partridge, Mo Chaudry , from Channel 4’s ‘Secret Millionaire’, and Ikram Butt, the first British Asian to represent England at either code of rugby.

Graham Evans is organising the match with St Luke’s Hospice, The Joshua Tree, Halton Haven Hospice and Northwich Cricket Club.

The main match sponsor is Roberts Bakery and other sponsors include Jacqueline Foster MEP, Amber Taverns, CRS Consultants Ltd, Sport Cheshire, R & R Safety Systems Ltd, Fujitsu, Cemex, University of Chester, Sajjad Karim MEP, HSBC and ABB.

Graham said: “The three nominated charities are extremely worthy causes, doing so much for the local community, and I’m delighted that all proceeds from the match will be going to them.

“I’m also very pleased to be able to announce such a good variety of celebrities to play in the match.

“I hope lots of people come along on the day and have a fantastic fun day out.”

Rhys Edwards, corporate and community fundraiser for St Luke’s Hospice, said: “We really appreciate the support of Graham over the past year, from running the London marathon to organising this charity cricket match.

“St Luke’s relies heavily on the kind support of the local community and all monies raised go directly to patient care.”

The match will be held at Northwich Cricket Club, at Moss Farm, on Sunday, June 29, with gates opening at noon.

People are invited to bring picnics and chairs and there will also be a licensed bar, food stalls and ice cream.

Tickets are £5, and free for under 16s.
