WINSFORD’S new junior mayor was invested during a special ceremony at Willow Wood Community Primary School on Friday, June 13.
Ten-year-old Megan Hamill received her robes and chain of office from town mayor, clr Gina Lewis and retiring Junior Mayor Harvey Banks in front of her admiring classmates.
Megan was chosen after impressing clr Lewis and deputy mayor, Mark Baker, with her work as a school playleader, and her efforts as a school councillor in helping to get some new play equipment installed at the play area in nearby Bradbury Road.
“It was a wonderful little ceremony,” said clr Lewis. “We tried to make it as authentic as possible so that the youngsters could see what happens at a real mayor making ceremony.
“Megan really looked the part and I’m sure she will prove to be a great junior ambassador for Winsford.”
Deputy headteacher, Jan Kay, added: “It was an honour for the whole school to be part of the mayor making ceremony this morning.
“We are delighted that a child from Willow Wood has been chosen as the new junior mayor and look forward to supporting Megan in her role this year.”
