FIRE crews are fighting a large blaze in Crewe at a scrap yard housing caravans and garage lock ups.
Police are also in attendance on Catherine Street, close to Gresty Road, and have advised residents to keep windows closed and stay inside. They have created a cordon to allow the crews to tackle the fire.
There are now six fire engines at the scene - one each from Holmes Chapel and Tarporley joining those from Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach and Middlewich.
A large number of scrap vehicles and single storage garages are now on fire.
The garages are built of wood and brick, with the site measuring some 20 metres by 30 metres.
Residents are being urged to keep windows and doors closed while there is a large amount of smoke in the area.
Catherine Street and the end of Chambers Street are currently closed.
