ENVIRONMENT Agency officers were called out on Monday to an oil spill at the Trent and Mersey Canal at Rudheath.
An agency spokesman said the spill occurred near Davenham Road, and a boom was placed in the canal beneath the Davenham Road bridge to contain the spill.
“Our environment officer attended the canal and identified one small dead fish in the water and minor contamination to bankside vegetation as a result of an oil spill,” said the spokesman yesterday.
“Working alongside the Canals and Rivers Trust, a boom has been used to contain the oil plume, and we are continuing to carry out investigations into the cause of the incident.
“If anyone sees signs of fish in distress we would urge them to report it to our incident hotline on 0800 807060.”
