VINTAGE motor cycles will taking to the Cheshire countryside on Sunday for the 40th anniversary Whitley Run.

Organised by the mid Cheshire section of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club (VMCC), the run will start at Whitley Village Hall at 11am.

Riders will follow a route through Arley, Appleton, Knutsford, Tatton and Mobberley before heading back to Whitley for lunch.

After lunch the route will pass through Crowton, Frodsham, Norley and Cuddington and return to Whitley Village Hall for awards.

The section was set up less than 12 months ago but is already going from strength to strength.

Stephen Herbert, secretary of the section, said: “We have an average of about 30 per month coming along for meetings at the Salt Barge in Marston in all weathers.

“We’re quite easy going and informal.”

The club is for owners of classic motor cycles that are more than 25 years old.

Members meet on the third Thursday of every month at the Salt Barge, in Ollershaw Lane, from 7.30pm.

Stephen said: “I think it’s popular because it’s about recreating your youth – I had a bike when I was 16 or 17 but then I got a car and went away from it.

“When I had a bike then it was a means of getting to work or college, but now it’s fun rather than necessity.

“And I can tinker with my bike with more knowledge than when I was 16 and can fix things I couldn’t then.”
