DAVENHAM was not the only location for wartime decoys in mid Cheshire, according to one Market Place reader.
George Gough, of Flintshire, told the Guardian previously about his knowledge of the Whatcroft decoy, and now it seems this was not the only place such sites were positioned.
Barnton resident Cyril Cadman, of Hayes Drive, said: "There was another decoy at Aston by Budworth, at Hilltop Farm.
"I lived in a cottage by the farm.
"It was built up on stilts and you could see it from quite a distance.
"We lived about a mile away so there was always the worry about if the decoy had to be used. Fortunately it never had to be set alight.
"A mine went off there one night but I never heard any noise from it."
Clayton Barber remembers the Whatcroft decoy. The 79-year-old, who now lives at Middlewich, said: "I was born at Boundary Farm which was just across the field and I always believed it was a decoy for Byley airfield.
"We were good pals with the airmen from Byley and I know the decoy only went off once and that was one night when it was struck by lightning."
