Allan Spilsbury

Published on 13/01/2022

SPILSBURY Allan The Funeral has taken place for Allan Spilsbury, 88, of Marston. Allan Spilsbury was born in Rudheath to the late Reg and Eva Spilsbury. Together with his younger sisters, Audrey and Julia, the family lived in Danefield, Northwich. In 1957, Allan married Ann Brown at Holy Trinity Church, Northwich. Whilst Allan was in the Merchant Navy, they settled first in Castle, thereafter they moved to Sale and eventually, after retirement, returned to Northwich once again to live in Marston. Allan's working life began at 'Yarwoods Shipyard' on the River Weaver. He moved from shipbuilding to join the Merchant Navy, serving with British India Lines as a young man. Later, once married, Allan worked for Shell Chemicals until he retired the first time. He maintained his connection to Shell Chemicals through its Shell Retired Members Club. Allan did, however, return to the workforce and worked for Tilghman Wheelabrator until he fully retired some years later. Allan loved the water and fishing, both coarse and trout fishing. Fly fishing sparked his interest in fly tying and he joined The North West Fly Dressers' Guild. Allan was credited for designing a fly called 'the Green Meanie' of which he was incredibly proud. Aside from being by the water, Allan enjoyed gardening, music and dancing. Allan, together with his wife Ann, enjoyed Ballroom Dancing. Later in life, their interest turned to frequenting car boot sales and gardening together. Ann's domain was the greenhouse, which Allan filled with tomato plants. Allan's dancing didn't stop at ballroom; he also took a turn at Line Dancing, which he attended regularly, and was known to share a step or two to some of his favourite songs with willing participants. Allan is survived by his sons, Peter (wife Wanda) and Andrew, grandchildren Jack (wife Rachel), Katie and Molly, great-granddaughter Annie, and his sisters, Audrey and Julia (partner Steve). Funeral Arrangements: F Hayes Funeral Care, Barton, Northwich, the service and committal at Vale Royal Crematorium was conducted by Celebrant Kevin Cooper. The family would like to thank everybody for their kind words, help and donations which were recently delivered to The British Heart Foundation in Allan's memory.
