ALTRINCHAM Garrick has achieved a coup for its first play of the season.
It won the right to present the amateur premiere of Jonathan Harvey’s play Corrie, based on 50 years of life in the street.
It is not an easy show for Bill Platt to direct. A cast of 18 will play 56 characters. There will be 30 scenes in Act One and 19 in Act Two.
Bill said: “There will be two major accident scenes featuring trams. The first is when Alan Bradley and Rita Fairclough become involved in an accident with a Blackpool tram.
“The second will illustrate the spectacular Metrolink crash. Both of these scenes demand a lot from our technical department.
“One of the backstage technicians meeting the challenge of these incidents will be James Merrington who will also have a small part.
“The swiftly moving action will involve speedy costume and wig changes. Mike Shaw and Carole Carr work hard to achieve this.”
The audience will enjoy the reappearance of characters such as Ena, Minnie and Martha. They will also see once more, Annie Walker, Ken and Deidre and Hilda and Stan.
Gail will return with four of her ex-husbands, three of whom meet a sticky end. She will be played by newcomer Laura Therese and appears on stage more than anyone else.
The set shows the street and the viaduct with moveable additional scene changes.
* Corrie will appear at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse from Friday, September 6 to Sunday, September 15. For tickets, telephone 0161 928 1677 or book online
