STAR Wars fans have no doubt heard that the latest offering from Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment is set in a galaxy far, far away.

Anticipation has been building since Fallen Order was announced in 2018 and now that it is finally here I have to admit it comes pretty close to the ideal single-player adventure I had in my mind.

The game is set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope when the last of the Jedi are being hunted throughout the galaxy by the Empire.

You play as Cal Kestis, a former Padawan who never finished his training and is now in hiding on the planet Bracca.

The game begins as he is tracked down by a force sensitive squad of Jedi hunters called the Inquisitorius.

In the opening scenes, Cal is rescued by a former Jedi Master, Cere Junda and a four armed alien pilot named Greez.

Together, along with a cute little droid named BD-1 that aids Cal with holographic maps and stims when the health level is low, they seek to rebuild the Jedi Order.

This involves visiting several planets throughout the galaxy, each with complex and multiple levels with hidden rooms, shortcuts and puzzles that will need to be solved.

As Cal’s journey progresses, there will be new areas to unlock so revisits to planets are encouraged as some key items can only be picked up on the re-runs.

The lightsaber combat is very satisfying as it feels nice and weighty, however, there were times when encounters with enemies felt a little sluggish, and on more then one occasion, the game did seem to stall. But I played this on a three-year-old PS4, so perhaps on a more powerful machine it would fair a lot better.

Respawn have done a great job, working with Disney and Lucasfilm to produce a game that has relaunched the Star Wars genre with a fresh set of characters and adventures in a galaxy far, far away.
