CAFE at the End of the Universe could soon be named among the best takeaways in the country after being shortlisted for a top award.

The pop culture themed and American-style burger bar at Warrington Market is down to the final five in the north west category of The British Takeaway Awards.

Andy Kinsella's family business was selected after a combination of a public vote and a visit from a mystery shopper to judge the food.

The Cafe at the End of the Universe team will now be heading to the British Takeaway Awards at The Savoy in London on January 27 for the final.

Celebrity chef Ainsley Harriot, Graham Corfield, chief operating officer of Just Eat and Sarah Willingham, entrepreneur and former star of Dragons' Den are among the judging panel.

They will be selecting 12 regional winners as well as an overall winner for the coveted Best Takeaway in Britain award.

As well as the accolade, each regional winner will receive £1,000 and the Best Takeaway in Britain will receive £5,000.

Andy Kinsella, who runs Cafe at the End of the Universe with his wife Victoria and sister Laura, said: "We are delighted to be announced as finalist in The British Takeaway Awards and be recognised in the top five of the north west.

"We're extremely grateful for all our customers who've supported us and, who knows, maybe we can win it for Warrington."

Andrew Kenny, managing director of Just Eat, added: “We are excited to be back for the fifth year running to celebrate the takeaways across Britain that provide their communities with quality food, outstanding customer service and joy.

"The calibre of restaurants is high so the judges will have their work cut out picking a winner."

Andy used to work at the Hale branch of Stockyard and Blue Dog Bar in Altrincham before launching his own business and selling burgers from a van.

His move to a permanent base at Warrington Market in 2017 saw him blend his love of American fast food with his favourite TV shows, films and retro games.
