PETER GEORGE SMITH (PETE) 5th October 1930 - 27th June 2018 Peter George Smith was born in London within 200 yards of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Ground and thus his life-long support of 'The Spurs' started. He was educated at Tottenham Grammar School and, following National Service in the RAF, at the London Borough Polytechnic College. He entered the Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning industry in 1950. He was an active member of his local Baptist Church and of the Boys' Brigade in North London, achieving his King's Badge and rising through the ranks to Lieutenant, when he coached boys in physical and sporting activities. He married Helen in 1952. In 1958 his employer seeking to expand their markets beyond London suggested that he move 'up north'; so he and Helen moved to Cuddington. With a small number of local enthusiasts he resurrected the local tennis club, becoming chairman. Under his leadership, the existing two courts were resurfaced and two further courts built. He then became chairman of the Playing Fields Association and led a sub-committee which improved the children's play area facilities including the provision of the giant slide. In 1970 he was elected to the Cuddington Parish Council, upon which he served until 2007. He was a very active member of the village and could be found helping to build the village bonfire throughout October, replacing the Christmas tree lights at the church throughout December and clearing up the railway station with many others throughout the year. He was Chairman of the Council in 1975/6, when his office project was to arrange the first survey of all footpaths in the village. During the '70s he was a parent-governor at Weaverham High School and Chairman of their PTA. He received the Mayoral award for Endeavour in the Community in 2008, and, for services to the Tennis Club, was given Life Membership of the Cuddington and Sandiway Tennis Club. He leaves 2 children Tony & Margaret and grandchildren, Chris, Natalie & Shaun.
