We are not opposed to Tesco in Middlewich, just the size of the store

I AM writing regarding the Planning Application 11/4471c Tesco Middlewich.

Clr Keith Bagnall is reported in the Guardian, December 21, 2011, to have spoken about the petition against Tesco.

If Clr Bagnall was referring to the online petition in which I am involved, I would like to clarify the nature of the petition. It is not a petition against Tesco, but against Tesco’s plans for a very large superstore in that location.

The signatories acknowledge that since Tesco owns the land occupying half the town’s shopping area it will inevitably develop the site, and we would very much want them to do so to stop the blight and tidy the place up, so that other businesses will be attracted to the town.

What we are against is allowing one retailer to dominate the town.

A food store the size of the 2009 plans would be more in proportion and have fewer traffic and pedestrian safety issues.

You can find us on Facebook at Middlewich Superstore Info. and sign the petition at www.voteformiddlewich.co.uk.
