Amazed authorities could consider new store

I AM amazed the authorities could even consider allowing Asda to come to Northwich, (Guardian, August 4).

We already have a really good balance of supermarkets, local traders, the market and the street farmers market without the need for Asda.

If it were permitted, it would be to the detriment of the present stores and businesses, and in the present economic climate we should be supporting our own traders, not an American company.

I can well understand our local MP dangling the carrot of 250 jobs, but in my opinion the resulting loss of jobs in other shops in Northwich as a result of the coming of Asda would cancel out those 250 jobs.
