I WOULD like to air my views on the Age UK ideas for looking after the elderly.
I am 91 and have one son who has a job which takes him abroad a great deal, so I cannot expect him to give up his job to socialise with me. He is a good son and does what he can.
I am housebound, and Thursday is the one day I look forward to meeting the friends I have made at the church club, in King Street, Middlewich.
We socialise and have a bit of laughter, talk and lunch, which makes my week, as I cannot walk very well. We all pay £7.50 each, so nobody is keeping us, but it does give us something to look forward to.
I have ridden horses all my life, but think this suggestion for people who are unsteady and can’t walk very far is ridiculous, as is playing golf or canoeing.
We all enjoy our meeting and when you have reduced vision and hearing it is ludicrous to suggest such activities.
Age means old, not 65 years or younger. I now realise why the name was changed to Age UK, the concern is now not there. Only the money is important, but I’m afraid the present Age UK will suffer as people will lose faith in it – why donate money just for wages and get no return?
I suppose it is more profitable to open a shop (charity) and get gifts given free, so it is very profitable.
We are all very upset about this, as are our families, as they feel we are safe at the club. I hope others can understand and try to help, please.
