THE excellent plans by the Government for free health care for the elderly are obviously a vote-winner.
However, one can see that they will never come to pass for the excuse, ‘too expensive’.
It would be very interesting indeed to have a breakdown of the costs involved, after all it is only a carer’s time that is involved.
The actual heating of the premises is the owner’s responsibility, as are items involved such as food, water, soap etc.
I have yet to hear of any elderly person who is compos mentis but just a bit frail and unsteady, express anything but fear and dread of going into a home. Not surprising considering the horror stories uncovered on a regular basis.
Surely part of our Council Tax could be used to provide this new scheme, after all the elderly do not use half the amenities to which their tax goes.
It does seem that governments and councils are loath to spend any money on the elderly.
They seem to believe in charity- begins-at- home, meaning their own.
