In search of the British work ethic

1:50pm Thursday 18th February 2010

DO we have a green borough council in Cheshire East and do we pay too much Council Tax?

Why do I ask these questions?

Today, at around lunchtime, I observed two council vans with flashing lights, drive past my home in Long Lane, Middlewich.

They then pulled over to the opposite side of the road, just alongside the roundabout, a little higher up from my house.

What happened then was a real eye opener. One man alighted from the first van carrying a spade. The second man got out of his van with a second spade, plus a plastic bucket filled with tarmac, while the other man stood on the road side waiting patiently with his spade.

The first man then jumped upon his plastic bucket to remove the tarmac. Then they proceeded to pat down the small pile in front of them, after which they returned to their respective vans and drove away in convoy. They presumably assumed they had accomplished a good morning’s work.

What on earth is happening to our British work ethics?
