Did council really listen to public over car park charges?

I WAS interested to see that your paper reported a Cheshire East spokesman stating that the council’s decision not to impose parking charges in Middlewich was due entirely to their response to local opinion. Clearly they refute the claim that pressure had been put on them from higher up the political scale following my letter to Mr Cameron. Whether Mr Cameron was, or was not, involved is irrelevant. What really matters is that the council’s claim to have acted following discussions with ward members and hearing representations from the public and traders has now been confirmed. This simple reiteration of their previous statement should now be sufficient to bury the idea for good. The views of the local ward members, public and traders will never alter.

So, by definition, to try to introduce charges at a later date will mean that they will have deliberately chosen to go against those views.

You can’t listen to the people one week and not the next.
