You can't dress up council cuts
7:10am Wednesday 2nd May 2012
CLR Fifield appears to be dressing up a stealth cut implemented by this Tory-led council (Letters, April 18). Our lowest paid employees are still being short changed to the tune of £720k. The
one-off £500k payment he mentions does not recompense workers for the full amount due to them of £1.22m (£250 pro rata pay increase for employees earning less than £21,000) as stipulated by the
Tory-led Coalition Government. If Clr Fifield had done his homework on procedure, he would appreciate that the Labour Group was perfectly within council guidelines to table amendments at full
council. Indeed the Tories proposed their own last minute amendment, presented after Labour’s amendments, regarding the 0.25 per cent council tax reduction to be funded by low paid workers from
their strike pay.
