IN April I was sent a bowel cancer screening kit which I used and promptly returned.

The results came back positive and I undertook further tests which identified a small cancerous tumour in my colon.

I was admitted to hospital and had an operation, undertaken by a first class surgical team, to remove the tumour.

They were dedicated, caring, displaying excellent teamwork.

On discharge I received the news everybody hopes for – I had early stage cancer and the operation was a success.

I require no further treatment or chemotherapy.

Recently I read that more than four in 10 over 60s fail to return the bowel cancer screen kit. I would like to say to all those individuals who are sent a bowel cancer home screening kit do not put it in the bin.

Use it and return it promptly. It could save your life.

It certainly saved mine.
