BACK in 2014, I was asked to stand for Middlewich Town Council in the 2015 election. It was felt that my previous experience as a town councillor would be valuable.

I agreed to stand because, it seemed to me, Middlewich Town Council had lost its way; Middlewich was not being represented in a strong and robust manner.

Having now served as a councillor since then, I have to say that it is even worse than I expected.

I have been asked by residents to put my name forward to stand as a borough councillor in May 2019; residents have specifically asked me to fight for them and our town.

So I will do just that: I will fight this election, and if Middlewich residents vote me in I will be guided by the residents and will stand up for them.

I sincerely believe that if more borough councillors were loyal to the residents they represent then Cheshire East Council would not be in the position it is today.

When was the last time you read anything about Cheshire East that was about what residents want?

Dealing with all these issues has taken precious money away from our services and plays a part in the cuts we all face such as threats to library services, reduced bus services and repairing pot holes.

Additionally, even the money we do get appears to be spent in dubious and wasteful ways.

For example, the new change to Newton Bank gyratory. CEC have spectacularly failed to address the actual problem faced by residents, the elderly, and kids going to school.

We still don’t have a proper crossing on that dangerous stretch of road.

Another disturbing example of how little interest Cheshire East has in Middlewich residents’ concerns is their decision to site a recycling hub so close to residential properties.

I want better for Middlewich. Help me get a better deal for all of us: vote for change in 2019.

Cllr Mike Hunter Middlewich Town Council
