SO Canal & River Trust is attempting to offload the former shipyard site.
I agree with Carol Crank of Riverside Park as I lived even closer to the yard for over 30 years.
In response to Ann O’Neill’s letter, I would agree that the site has been under-used and neglected for many years, but to apply for, and maybe allow 96 homes on the site by the River Trust is ridiculous.
What remains of the lower part of Saxons Lane, it is said will be widened and lit by street lamps.
No mention of sewage or waste disposal facilities.
Now who will pay for theses?
And how can access and parking be controlled when those early rising fishermen and walkers get there first.
Not to mention access to Alfred Street.
The hill climb/decent can be treacherous in winter conditions.
Regarding planning, don’t even consider building on land adjoining the site.
It has always been like a sponge, being the old bed of the river in its original path.
Should, and I hope not, the scheme is allowed, it could become a terminal for Councillor Naylor’s water buses, change at Hunts’ lock, to a coracle.
