Open letter to Northwich Town Council/ Mike Amesbury/ CWAC Mid.

Cheshire College has been in Hartford since circa 1962 . Prior to the merger with Warrington Collegiate, why did the council not get a written guarantee that its future was assured?

In 2008, the college opened a £3.5m arts and creative media building and a new £7.5m building superior to other colleges within Cheshire.

Years of mismanagement have failed Mid Cheshire College. The arrival of a new leadership team from Warrington was hailed as our saving grace, but our relief at being ‘saved’ has been short lived.

While it’s true they have moved some courses to their much smaller Winsford campus, the vast majority of courses, have been transferred to Warrington.

Do management really believe that all students wanting to study courses not on offer at Winsford will travel to Warrington?

Warrington is further than both South Cheshire and Reaseheath colleges and they will be the main beneficiaries of this decision.

Staff were ‘sold’ the merger because it would safeguard Hartford, since the proposed all Cheshire college merger would see Hartford close down.

Students from north, south, east and west Cheshire all have access to a local college of further education – only those from the Mid Cheshire area are being asked to travel further afield. Why is this?

Once this provision has gone, it has gone forever.

You must act now to ensure future generations have access to a local education.
