NORTHWICH Conservative councillors were surprised to read the article about the Labour-run town council passing a motion to stop car parking charges being brought in by the Labour-run Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Our question to the town council would be why haven’t you been arguing against this proposal, since charges were first hinted at by Labour-controlled CWAC?

And why didn’t they back our ‘call in’ to reconsider this proposal brought by the Northwich Conservative ward councillors over a year ago? Are we going to see a revised decision?

Cllr Dolan could have voted against this at the cabinet; he along with Cllr Naylor could have also voted against the Labour budget for CWAC, which sees a tax increase of five per cent which ironically is going towards new parking machines.

They could instead have had the guts to support our alternative budget which protected £1.7m for children services and £4 million to adult social care as well as protecting services, preventing parking charges and investing in our roads among other forwardlooking plans.

Labour are happy to tell residents about government cuts but never give the full facts such as they have managed to underspend their last two years’ budgets and have a £6 million surplus on the books with no plans to spend it.

Or how much extra they have received from the different government departments for projects, or how much money they wasted, such as being fined £300,000 by Countess of Chester hospital for failure to provide social care for patients who are medically fit for discharge.

The list goes on and we plan to publish it so people can see for themselves.
