MY wife and myself have just returned from Winsford town centre and it’s a total disgrace and a complete let-down to the people of this area.

Apart from the knocking down of the flats and shops to be replaced by who knows what; the barriers are being removed to show a slabbed walkway with concrete stumps; the centre part consisting of rubble up to now.

Whoever gave permission to put cheap looking boxes containing beans, potatoes etc and now a feeble cane effigy of some kind of monstrous flying insect?

Going further down to the first empty shop to hit the eye; which used to be a good quality charity shop for furniture for the less well off, we are now faced with more awful effigies etc.

Is there a council plan to make Winsford the laughing stock of Cheshire, especially when you see what the council in Northwich is doing?

There are no signs of security or police to control the children’s unchallenged racetrack.

Moving out to the estates I had reason to contact the highways department this week to complain about the grass verges in and around Foxfield Road and Rosewood Drive etc being over a foot high in grass and the briars are so long in parts we are unable to use the pavements without getting cut or stabbed and we have seen people having to walk into the road to avoid injury.

It is noticeable that the verges by the new estate towards the police HQ are all nicely trimmed and cleared, whilst ours have now been cut and the residue left in large clumps to blow everywhere.

I would like a response regarding this misuse of all our hard-earned Council Tax.

Considering the amount of new build which on average will be Band D at £1,600 plus a house, I don’t know how the council has the nerve to talk about future plans.

They must walk around Winsford with their eyes shut, but they are still holding out their hands for more money all the time, and even more preposterously considering charging for parking when there is very little to stop your engine for here.

We keep hearing that a hotel is to be built in Winsford, and perhaps the council may consider sharing some of its inner secrets with the very deserving people of Winsford or do us a very big favour and let more able people take over.
