THE obstructions being put in the way of TK Maxx opening a store on the former J&S site in Northwich prompts me to ask what is CWAC playing at?

They seem to be willing to risk losing what would be a coup for the commercial prospects of the town centre and the 40 jobs that would come with it by pointing a gun at the heads of the owners of TK Maxx and telling them ‘it’s Barons Quay or else’.

My opinion is that the risk of them walking away would be too great and the message would soon get out to other national retailers that Northwich is open for business but only on the terms dictated by the council bureaucrats in Chester.

That would put the kibosh on the town for decades into the future and surely must be avoided.

Councillors on the planning committee should organise a meeting which would give a welcoming green light to TK Maxx.

And do it quickly.
