THE front page headline and story in the Winsford Guardian of May 18 was an accurate summary of what I had said and why I had said it.

The new Mayor, Cllr Mike Kennedy’s comments are interesting, not so much as to what he said as to what he did not say.

He did not deny that the rule change in the Mayoral convention by the Labour Group keeps the Lib Dem councillors out of the office of Mayor.

Nor did it occur to Cllr Mike Kennedy to express a word of sympathy for the Lib Dem councillors who will now almost certainly miss out on the once in a lifetime opportunity to have the honour to be the town Mayor.

Cllr Kennedy was quite correct when he said ‘it was gutter politics of a bygone era’ but not in the way he intended.

This was gutter politics initiated by the Labour Party which will ensure hard working councillors would be barred from being the town mayor simply because they did not belong to the Labour Party.
