GREAT news that Cheshire East has promised to impose a Lewin Street weight restriction when the Eastern Bypass is constructed completely.

Or did they mean ‘wait’ restriction?

We need an Eastern Bypass but as I have said before this will do nothing to ease traffic on the A54 Chester Road.

Some years ago the company I worked for moved into the old Pochin’s offices on King Street - this building had been occupied by ICL before us and is now known as Total People.

There was a lot of old paper work etc left behind from the previous occupants including a 1960s plan drawn up for a bypass.

In this the bypass was to run alongside the railway line (along King Street ) from Holmes Chapel Road to take traffic away from Middlewich Town Centre out towards Stanthorne/Bostock.

Having technical drawing knowledge from my school days rather than throw this plan away I placed it in our storage for posterity.

In the meantime, as far as a weight restriction and Cheshire East, perhaps they could install a camera to impose the restriction they already have running through the Manor Estate.

We also need another on the bridge on St Annes Road to detect HGVs cutting through from the weight restriction close to Southway to catch HGVs taking a short cut to Cledford.
