I NOTE that the Middlewich Eastern bypass is dependent on a government grant.

To cut a story short my late father suggested to the then Congleton Council that a deck style bridge could be put in place over the canal close to the Brooks Lane bridge (on the Middlewich town centre side of the bridge spanning the Wardle Canal with where it meets the Shropshire Union Canal) to link Lewin Street/Booth Lane to Brooks Lane to take through traffic to Kinderton Street Junction by the Boars head.

Whilst this might not have been a total ideal solution for a bypass - Brooks Lane was already constructed and is reasonably wide enough for HGV’s - a deck bridge was constructed over the old Turn Over Bridge to cross the canal at Tetton (yes the old hump back bridge is still under the new bridge).

This was rejected as unfeasible - maybe not suitable now as the main part of the bypass has been built between Cledford Lane and Pochin Way/ Holmes Chapel Road but no doubt cheaper!
