FOLLOWING the news that Cheshire Fire and Rescue Chief and Deputy Chief have been awarded handsome pay rises and bonus payments on top of their already very generous salaries, I believe that it is in very poor taste considering front-line firefighters came under the one percent public pay cap.
With budgets tightening across all fire services in England, now is not the time to be paying frivolous bonuses to people who frankly don’t deserve it.
The same seems to be happening in many other areas of the public sector, such as our local councils with many bosses being paid more than Theresa May.
If there is anyone in Cheshire Fire and Rescue who deserves a pay rise or a bonus it is the hard working men and women who every day are risking their lives to keep us safe as front-line firefighters.
